Biography

Professor Lin received her Ph.D. in Media and Information from Michigan State University. Her research and teaching interests focus on environmental, science, health, risk, crisis, marketing, cross-cultural and computer-mediated communication at an individual, community and societal level.  As the recipient of a University Distinguished Research Faculty award, she is also the founder of the Communication Technology Division at the Association for Education in Journalism & Mass Communication. She is experienced in designing interactive informatics tools for risk communication. Her current research addresses utilizing augmented reality, mobile devices, and biometrics to cultivate and enhance public engagement with corporate marketing, brand advertising, climate change and environmental health. She has developed or co-developed a commercialized bioinformatics system and two interactive health video games as well as a health promotion and storm preparedness mobile applications. Her interests in climate-change related communication research addresses the dynamics of coupled natural and human systems via integrated socio-environmental systems to generate solutions for building social resilience as well as enhancing environmental literacy, health and sustainability. She is a former editor-in-chief of the Journal of Broadcasting & Electronic Media.  She has been ranked among the top 2% most cited scientists in the world in a 2020 study.
